THE BOY

Phobia

Charley is phobic of spiders in all shapes and sizes. He cannot handle spiders, he does not deal with spiders, he wishes spiders didn’t exist. This stems from an extremely cruel ‘prank’ his brother, Cain Harris, inflicted on him when he was a child. Charley associates any spider with that fear and humiliation.
Knives being used towards him in a threatening matter will cause an immediate shut down - he freezes and won’t move until the threat is removed regardless of the situation. His father, Elijah Harris, often used a knife to threaten and terrify Charley into obedience and as punishment for perceived disrespect. The trauma and fear of that has remained with him through the years.

Verses where weapons are the norm: Charley finds the sound of guns unsettling and in cases where a weapon is needed, prefers a simple recurve bow. He is capable of using smaller caliber weapons at a amatuer level - he’s no sharp shooter and won’t pull off an accidental discharge. His bows tend to be smaller, lighter weight weapons (35-40lb draw weights), while he is no expert he is relatively proficient and capable of taking down small game to feed himself. He does not have the strength required to cock most modern crossbows without a cranking system, and finds it easier to avoid them. Compound bows are simply too complicated for his tastes.
Elijah Harris (Father) considered crying a sign of weakness and disrespect. The result of this is that Charley doesn’t often cry, even when badly hurt. Due to a different relationship during his teen years, Charley will cry without warning if called ‘Kitten’ regardless of the circumstances.

He does not like to be called ‘Charles’ and takes offense to it. He refers to himself as, and goes exclusively by, ‘Charley’.

scars

Charley has a small scar on his neck, under the corner of the jaw on the left side. This was caused by his father getting a little overzealous with the knife and threats of killing him. He doesn’t think about it and absolutely does not like it being mentioned.
His other scars are primarily limited to his back, buttock, and backs of his thighs. These are thin, criss-crossing stripes that have mostly faded with age and are the product of frequent beatings. He was always expected to act as if he had a perfectly normal home life and his father made it clear that he would disappear if he ever so much as breathed the idea that things at home were less than ideal.

Warnings: Trafficking, slavery, theft, abuse

Charley became another runaway statistic at fifteen, no longer able to cope with the abuse his father, Elijah Harris, inflicted on him. Raised a sheltered Catholic, he was entirely unprepared for the ‘real world’ outside his home town and church. Unwilling to go back, and fearing the consequences of his transgression, he made his way south, his intention to make it over the US - Mexico border and be safe from authorities.

While hitch-hiking through Texas, Charley was picked up by an older woman named Celeste who offered him food, shelter, and work until he was able to make his way to his intended destination. Naive, Charley accepted the offer and was inducted into an underground trafficking ring outside a small town in New Mexico. Celeste, understanding that there is more profit to be made than just on the sales of slaves, operated a members-only strip club and brothel staffed by runaways. Charley remained here from the ages of fifteen to seventeen, at which time he learned the truth of what happened to those who ‘aged out’ of the club by one of Celeste’s ‘personal girls’. He once again ran away, far more cautious now.

Now in his early twenties, Charley is a petty thief, and homeless. He primarily makes his living popping car locks to scavenge what he can - pocket change or dropped valuables. Very rarely, he will shoplift or break into empty homes to sleep, take clothes, or food. Over the years he has managed a few careful sugar daddy / sugar baby relationships for short periods of time, never for more than a few months and moving on to a different city after. His only form of ID is fake, and he is essentially a ghost in the system.

Mob Dog
Warnings: Drugs, organized crime, criminal activity

Set a year into his ‘career’, Charley has fallen in with the Los Angeles (other possible locations: New York, Miami) chapter of the Russian Mafia. Working primarily as a courier for small drug drops, he’s found enjoyment in his work and gets along well with his co-workers. He is actively learning Russian, in exchange helping newer members with their English.

No longer a petty thief, Charley now has a place to call home in the mob’s dorm-style housing and is thriving in the relatively ‘safe’ environment. He has fake identification of far better quality, but still does not drive. His main mode of transportation is carpooling with his co-workers, or a bicycle.

GTA V

The Past
After running away from home, Charley ended up in Los Santos by pure chance. He got lucky, falling in with the underground LGBTQ groups that became the family he never really had. They gave him the confidence to grow a backbone and grab his bootstraps - turning from a soft, quiet, timid boy into a pretty, doe-eyed entrepreneur made for grabbing the Los Santos rich and famous by the balls and twisting until they screamed.

Charley started his business with college parties thrown by the spoiled brats of the rich and famous, easing into the crowds with a smile and a bullshit story only to walk out with cash and Prada. This got him into the better bars and clubs - a pretty young face and some expensive looking clothes opens more doors in the city. He was careful with his targets - picking the rich ones with the shit attitudes and the God-complexes, the ones with the dark secrets and desires; coaxing them back to hotels where he recorded what followed on a cheap burner phone. The art of blackmail turned out to be easier than he thought it would be, maybe it was how Los Santos worked, or pure luck. He’s had close calls more than once and bettered his technique each time.

The Present
Charley has cultivated a fine stable of ‘piggies’ and a portfolio of photos and recordings to keep them in line and producing monthly cash deposits that are picked up through a system of couriers to keep himself better hidden. His morals are extremely grey, he’s not above using drugs to gain an advantage over a mark or staging photos far beyond what would have actually happened - he justifies this by only picking the real bastards, the ones who deserve it.
Charley keeps his wealth out of the banks, distributed in hidden safes just in case one of his pigs tries something crass and he has to bolt. He doesn’t pick up new pigs as often anymore, mostly content with what he has and what he’s gained.

Charley occasionally picks up men for fun - or casual prostitution, if there’s money on the table he won’t turn it down. Most of his lovers are occasional, although he wouldn’t turn down the chance at a real relationship.

REAL ESTATE
Charley has invested cash into real estate, bought through a layers of shell companies meant to keep him shielded from the bad bastards he blackmails for a living. His main residence is a one-bedroom apartment in North Los Santos. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s cozy and he likes it that way. He’ll bring lovers that he trusts there from time to time, but caution is typically at the forefront of his mind.

He has also purchased two low-down houses outside of Los Santos, one in Sandy Shores and one in Paleto Bay. He’ll pay someone to check on things from time to time but rarely visits them himself, they’re there purely for Shit’s-Hit-The-Fan scenarios when he needs to get out of the city and fast. He prefers his ratty looking places to the motels with roaches the size of kittens and questionable stains on the mattress.

Two of his piggies pay for condos, used purely for his blackmail and extortion business. They’re equipped with high definition camera and audio equipment that uploads directly into a secure cloud-based server system. The nicest one is in the Eclipse Tower in North Los Santos, the second in the building at 3 Alta Street in West Los Santos. Where he takes his future pigs depends entirely on what role he is playing at the time and what level of luxury is expected to come with it.

Main Verse
Warnings: Underage backstory, abusive household, trauma, pica, cannibalism

At the moment, Charley’s main verse is specific to Woodbury standing and the Governor being in power. Charley is host to a nanite swarm, detailed below.

POOR BROKEN THING
Charley is in his early twenties but not entirely sure of his exact age, or even the precise year at this point, and ‘totally normal’ in his own opinion. He is an intensely loyal and affectionate man who relishes gentle physical contact and praise.

Charley interacts with the Governor semi-often (one in particular, not multiple muns) and is most often referred to as ‘thing / it’, or dog-like terms. He has an extremely unhealthy fixation with the man and a high desire to please him, despite the fact that his occasional outbursts land him punishments of varying severity - all of which he considers forgivable.

Charley desires to please those in positions of power and authority to the point that it’s detrimental to his own health. If he believes the authoritative figure does not have enough to eat, or is not eating enough (seen, especially, in his Governor fixation) - he will not eat. He goes out of his way to procure gifts in hope of gaining additional favor and praise, no matter how brief it may be.
Charley’s view of the ‘normal’ is rather badly skewed. He’s easily influenced and controlled by bad people, even the threat of punishment is enough to subdue him. He has little concept of self worth - believing that he is ‘broken’ beyond repair or hope. Charley does have something of an abandonment fear, especially in terms of people he has become attached or otherwise fixated with.

THE THINGS THAT HAUNT HIM
Charley suffers from nightmares, some severe enough to the point of him crying in his sleep, and is mostly unaware of his own triggers or even how to properly cope with them. When triggered or otherwise overwhelmed he can go two ways: he will shut down and become submissive, or amp up and become aggressive. Post-aggression, he will generally become extremely apologetic, and more often than not his deep-seated fears of abandonment will rise.
Charley is slightly unstable, seen in his outbursts - insults or abrupt challenging of authority - that typically end with him being punished. Charley considers this something of a moderate fault, and believes that with time (and punishment) he will eventually learn to hold his tongue appropriately and will be therefore ‘fixed’ to some degree.

Other times Charley is gripped with a sort of chaotic wanderlust he’s incapable of explaining, a need to simply go out and live like a wild animal, entirely alone. Sometimes this results in light theft and mild property destruction (trash cans tipped over, street signs turned upside down, yard trinkets and other generally inconsequential things stolen). He may or may not be acting feral (aggressive) at these times, depending on what he’s run into during his time in the wild.

THE THINGS THAT MARK HIM
Charley is often bruised, usually in the face but sometimes on the torso and legs. Small cuts and scrapes are not all that uncommon. He is small and rather thin but is relatively resilient, quick, and a decently strong climber.

TALENTS HE KEEPS
He does like to keep to some degree of cleanliness, either bathing in streams or collecting water from them to heat for washing. He’s not entirely sure how to make soap properly, but with some trial, error, and library raids he has managed to learn about tanning animal hides, native plants, and fire starting. He has cultivated a relatively keen eye and with a little bit of logic, has something of a ‘gift’ for locating old prepper bunkers and occasionally, stashes. The proceeds of his successful raids are typically then given to the Governor to distribute as he sees fit, but he will retain small amounts for his own health and safety.

A PLACE TO CALL HOME
Charley’s primary residence is a small treehouse with a decently engineered dropping/raising ladder system located roughly three miles east of Woodsbury. Within this, he is typically capable of remaining self-sufficient for several weeks without needing to leave (in the event of a large horde or storms). Beyond his treehouse he keeps several buried and raised caches with additional supplies he has scavenged. It isn’t perfect but he does call it home

THE MONSTERS INSIDE
Charley is the unknowing host of a nanite swarm, courtesy of his ‘ex-husband’. Nanites are a type of microscopic robot, a sort of hyper-intelligent and highly capable parasite. While these nanites are fed primarily by ‘cows’ - people in a coma-like sleep whose bodies are utilized by secondary swarms to feed the energy needs of the swarm as a whole - Charley’s host status does not cause a coma-state and he carries them to a somewhat lesser degree than ‘cows’ or the primary host (his assumed dead ‘ex-husband’). The nanites allowed for a far deeper than natural emotional bond between him and the other man, and caused what Charley generally refers to as his ‘dark period’ post separation. During this, he spent several months, possibly as long as a year, wandering alone and eventually ending up, and settling, outside Woodbury in Georgia.

Post-separation his nanites switched to a survival mode, meant to keep their current host, Charley, alive as a form of overall swarm protection as finding and possessing a suitable host can be exceptionally difficult. They are capable of fighting off infection, preserving brain function in cases of severe injury (such as being stabbed, or shot, in the brain), as well as repairing and rebuilding flesh. Because of this, Charley possesses a sort of quasi-immortality. Extreme cases of dismemberment - such as being torn apart by an explosion - would be immediately fatal, and in such cases the nanites would be forced to seek out a new host.

Due to the nanite’s need for survival, bites from zombies have the opposite effect than what is normal (infection, turning). The nanites will not only attack and eradicate the infection from the bite itself, but swarm outside their host to eradicate the source itself. This can be most easily seen when the dead are few in number as a faint, blackish sort of mist. In cases of large hordes of dead, it presents more closely to the ripple effect of a stone thrown in a pond, with the dead dropping in an outward wave around the ‘stone’ - Charley himself. In cases of mass-casualties of the dead, it is possible to hear the nanites returning to their host - a whispering, hash, metallic shush.
While the nanites are exceptional at preserving the life of their host, it is clear that these unintended attacks are extremely taxing on Charley himself. Immediately after he will act almost drunk, slurring his words, unclear of his surroundings, but able to recognize those familiar to him to some extent. In very large attacks, he may be unable to stand or be entirely unconscious for upwards of an hour, or will stagger and fall often. A form of pica also exhibits as he will seek out iron-rich sources to consume - such as dirt (red soils in particular) or metal shavings. Most commonly, he will be seen consuming dark green plants and some soil. In more extreme cases, he may even cannibalise recently bitten ‘fresh’ dead for the iron in their blood. During these times, he is mostly unaware of what he is doing. Once he has mostly satisfied his need for iron-rich resources - or otherwise exhausted - he will sleep for a long period of time as part of his recovery.

The nanites are not currently a threat to uninfected humans. Even in cases where Charley is fatally injured by someone, they will not swarm as they do to attack the dead. The infection carried by the dead has a specific threat signature that uninfected humans do not have. The nanites will also not attack the dead unless Charley is first bitten, triggering a need for defense.

Charley is both unaware of the nanites (this is caused, most likely, by the trauma of losing his ‘husband’, and not wanting to be seen as a freak), and in denial of their existence. In instances where he does not crawl or wander away from multiple dead, or even a horde, and wakes up in their presence, he will come up with extremely fanciful ideas of how they died - including freak weather phenomenon, or unexplained sickness. He also will refuse to believe he has died and come back to life at any point in time, but will occasionally joke about death and about how ‘dying only hurts sometimes’. The nanites do not protect him against pain, and in cases where he is attacked by the dead he will feel it as much as anyone else. They also do not speed healing times except for in cases of exceptional need - bites, or severe, potentially life threatening injuries, or sickness (he is not immune to the flu, and is an absolute baby about it).

In theory, Charley would be capable of consciously controlling, and weaponizing, his nanites, but he does not exhibit the ability at this time.

Far Cry

Rook Island, Kyrat, Hope County

Warnings: Abuse, bodily injury, trauma, drugs

1970 - MOB DOG - 20 YEARS OLD
After the death of his abusive fiancee, Charley traveled to New York and joined the ranks of a growing offshoot of the Russian Mafia. He rose rapidly from his starting position of errand boy, pushing up through the ranks with his determination, work ethic, and quick understanding of the Russian language. During this time he traveled briefly to Kyrat to assist the future dictator Pagan Min and his second in command Mohan Ghale, helping settle a small troop of Russian mercenaries that would later help overthrow the throne entirely and put Pagan Min in power as the king of Kyrat.

1973 - DARLING - 23 YEARS OLD
Charley meets a strange and impossibly tall executive at a business dinner between the Russians and a company known as Murkoff. The stranger is introduced to him as Garrett Raskolnikov, and despite a rocky start to their acquaintance, Charley finds himself falling in love with the doctor and moves into his home a few weeks later. Within months Garrett proposes despite the illegality of their relationship, Charley accepts and they wed in a private ceremony. Charley knows little of his husband’s work, the need for him to set the tone of the mob’s relationship with Murkoff no longer required. He continues to work, doing his best to keep his work local so he can spend time with his darling.

1976 - GOODBYE KISS - 26 YEARS OLD
Despite his talents of foreign relations, Charley decides to retire from the mafia and take up a quieter, gentler job at the local bookshop in the Montana town where Garrett’s subsection of the company is located. Unbeknownst to him, his boss Grigori discovered his illicit marriage long before he left, deciding that Charley’s worth as an employee outweighed the cost of killing him. Now enraged by his decision to retire from the mafia long before his time, Grigori convinces Charley to go on one last foreign trip to Columbia to assist in securing a contract with a growing cocaine producer. Charley gives Garrett his wedding ring, promises to be back for good in three months, and leaves for South America, never to return.

1976 - THE DEATH OF CHARLEY HARRIS - 26 YEARS OLD
Charley is welcomed warmly to the Colombian plantation and enjoys the last dinner he’ll ever have as a whole man. His Russian boss, Grigori, already informed the strictly-Catholic and homophobic Francisco of his plans to leave the mafia and his illicit marriage, instructing him to do with the young man as he sees fit. Charley is shown what he believes will be his room for the next three months on the plantation and falls into a deeply drugged sleep. He wakes in a tiny, dark room, deep in the hold of a ship, unaware of the time that has passed or what has happened.

1976-1977 - THE SHIP - 26-27 YEARS OLD
It takes a year for the ship to travel from Salvador, Brazil to the distant Indonesian island of Rook, during which Charley is subjected to squalid conditions and daily abuse. Forced to work a variety of demeaning jobs on the ship, any perceived slights or breaking of the daily-changing rules is grounds for severe beatings or other creative punishments including withholding of food and water. By the time they reach their destination Charley has lost a large majority of his already slight weight, suffering from a number of trauma-based disorders that will haunt him for the rest of his life.

1977 - ROOK ISLAND - 27 YEARS OLD
The large ship stops several miles off the coast of the northern island and Charley is tossed onto a smaller skiff by the captain, accompanied by a few shipmates. As per Francisco’s instructions, they take him within a mile of the tropical island before shooting Charley in the left foot with a .44 caliber pistol and throwing him overboard. He has the option to be eaten by sharks and die, or swim and potentially live. Charley has little recollection of how he got to the distant island, but it’s likely he was rescued by a local fisherman and brought ashore.

Charley’s earliest memories of the island involve the Rakyat Temple and the royal family, several years before the birth of Citra and her younger brother, Vaas. He heals and is allowed to wander the temple, warned not to venture out into the jungle alone due to the predatory animals beyond its walls. It’s there in the depths of the temple where the old magic resides that he accidentally gains immortality, unknown to him until several years later.

1983 - THE PRINCESS OF ROOK - 33 YEARS OLD
When Citra is born, the island is already well on it’s way to prosperity, mining had begun in the late 70’s and a young government was doing well with cash flowing in. Charley took an immediate shine to the infant and would be present for much of her young years. He does his best to help the family and the island while still suffering the trauma and fears that haunt him from his traumatic ordeal on the ship. He becomes good friends with the king who respects his desire to remain somewhat removed from the complicated workings of government and foreign affairs, but still provides advice when needed. Charley ventures out more, visiting the villages and befriending the locals. With their help he began construction of his treehouse that he will often go to in later years. His deep seated paranoia keeps him from leaving on the commercial ships that haul Rook’s bounty to the mainland.

1985 - THE PRINCE OF ROOK - 35 YEARS OLD
Vaas’ birth is celebrated by the Rakyat and villagers as a further sign of hope for the future of the island. Charley begins to notice his lack of aging but assumes it’s just the island air and relaxed lifestyle of the people. He begins exploring Rook further and takes to swimming to alleviate the constant pain that comes from his badly crippled leg. He slowly begins to worry less about the distant Francisco and his ex-boss, Grigori. The ships coming in and out of Rook’s ports begin to look more appealing, a way back to his darling husband, who undoubtedly believes him dead.

1986 - THE TYRANT - 36 YEARS OLD
As Charley at last decides to make his goodbyes and leave, the ships stop coming to Rook. Uncertainty begins to infect the island like a plague and soon enough, strange ships are seen off the coast. As smaller boats come to the beaches, Charley goes with the king to see who the strange visitors are, and what business they have here on the islands.

Charley wakes hours later to the sound of rockets and gunfire, smoke clouding the air. The king is dead, riddled with bullets. As he makes his way inland he comes across more and more chaos of the yet-unknown Hoyt Volker’s forceful overtaking. By the time he reaches the temple the gates are sealed with the Rakyat and the rest of the royal family inside. As he’s forced to try and survive in a world plunged into terror and war, it becomes clear that the blame for this lies on his own head. He’s now an outcast to the Rakyat in a world that terrifies him, there’s no one to help him but himself.

1987 - ONWARD - IMMORTALITY
It takes several more deaths before Charley accepts the curse and begins to revert back to the man he was when tossed from the skiff. People he formed friendships with are killed or enslaved, forced into prostitution or sold. Hoyt’s privateers control the northern island with an iron fist as work begins to build Hoyt’s empire on the southern sister island. More hellish men arrive, among them a young Buck Hughes whom Charley spends several months under the ‘care’ of before escaping with new scars, healed and now permanent. Deep seated traumas intensify and keeping meaningful relationships become nearly impossible as his own fears drive him away. Charley watches an island he once loved fall into chaos and disarray, Rakyat he once broke bread with now at best treat him like a pariah if they don’t shoot him outright. It isn’t until it’s far too late that he hears of the queen’s death, Citra’s overtaking of the Rakyat, and Hoyt’s brutal twisting of Vaas’ mind.

THESE MODERN DAYS
In current times, any connection Charley had to the Rakyat ‘royal’ family is entirely forgotten. People who would have known him then are either dead, or were small children at the time. No stories were passed down within the temple, and outside he was simply seen as yet another invader despite his crippled leg and small size. At best, he was considered cursed due to his undying nature, and at worst, he was something to be mocked and abused whenever he dared show his face. Over the years the stigma with the locals has faded with more pressing concerns at hand.

Despite his history with the island and its people, Charley has an almost vicious sense of loyalty towards superior authority, a dangerous combination when paired with a heavily warped idea of normalcy. In this dog-eat-dog world, the ones with the biggest teeth and claws are King and henceforth offer the coveted comforts of safety and stability. Sometimes this results in extreme obsessive behavior and harassment of the person he’s interested in.
Another result of his warped view is a number of heavily abusive relationships over the years, what few truly loving and stable ones he has found rarely lasting long due to Charley’s instability and paranoia with the lack of flaring tempers and physical violence. Despite this, in his moments of calm Charley is very receptive to gentle touch, enjoying even something so simple as platonic cuddling.

Charley’s crippled leg is still a problem to this day, evidenced by his use of a cane to walk, with further damage being done by a rare woman pirate by the name of Bethany Schwipps. Bethany irreparably damaged his knee in an act of cruel revenge for an act Charley can no longer remember. While he cannot die, damage that has healed does not reset to it’s prior state when he revives - this can also be seen in a number of scars that Charley has from other violent abuses he has suffered. Regardless of his knee and shot-shattered foot, Charley’s stamina, and ability to walk for several hours has been cultivated over the course of many long, painful years. His pain threshold has raised, slowly, as he learned to ignore the constant agony of his leg, or more recently, temper it with drug abuse.

With Vaas’ brutal rise to power and the influx of his violent pirates, Charley turned to drugs as a means to cope with his pain and deeply rooted CPTSD and other traumas. His addictions to various drugs, both ones commonly found and of his own creation, waxes and wanes depending on his mental state and amount of sleep he’s able to find but his temperament suffers markedly when he is using. He becomes far more short tempered, bratty, aggressive, and impulsive. He is more prone to mood swings and lashing out, ever more paranoid and unstable, much like Vaas himself.
Charley possesses a decent amount of strength despite his slight build and crippled leg, what weight he has is mostly lean muscle mass thanks to a diet of wild game and fruits, and a physically active lifestyle. Unable to drive, he travels by walking, often climbing to escape predators, or swimming for relief and relaxation.
Charley is not a trained fighter, but he is capable of being vicious as hell in a short skirmish. His methods of attack are heavily unfair, using his cane as a blunt force weapon, scratching, biting, or going directly for the eyes or groin. Despite this, he is easily incapacitated due his slight size and crippled leg. Something as simple as stomping on his left foot will cease any further attempt at attack.
Due to a strong dislike of guns, Charley carries a recurve bow, reminiscent of old Rakyat design. He has modified it into a take-down, allowing for easy transport during travel. With a 55lb draw weight, it is capable of taking down medium sized game and some lightly armored humans with a maximum range of 45 yards. His secondary weapon is a slingshot that he loads with ball bearings when necessary. This is capable of punching a hole in the frontal lobe of a helmetless enemy. Unfortunately, it’s maximum range is only 15 yards.
